Natalie has always been interested in food and health. As a child, she suffered from several food allergies forcing her and her family to make big changes to their eating habits. She quickly experienced and understood the correlation between healthy food, healing, and energy.
Natalie has a way with food. She started in the kitchen at a very early age. She would make recipe “inventions” and her mother will tell you how she never knew what she was up to in the kitchen, but to expect nothing short of creative.
As an active teen and young adult, Natalie was always involved in indoor and outdoor activities. She enjoyed sports and exercise including baseball, Jiu-Jitsu, yoga, rowing, and strength training at the gym. She pursued outdoor education and recreation and leisure studies and worked in the recreation facility at Seneca College.
After her first child was born, Natalie began to take her health more seriously. She wanted to ensure that she was nourishing her family the best she could. She enrolled at the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition in Ottawa, Ontario and also got a job at GoodLife Fitness. Training at the gym became a daily routine and soon enough, Natalie found herself nearing competition. Between studying, training, and the birth of her second daughter, Natalie balanced her family life and work life successfully and began a practice as a Holistic Nutritionist.
When her life path took a turn with a separation, Natalie found herself having to juggle work and two children much on her own. Unfortunately, this led to some trying times and she put aside her practice and fitness goals. With weight gain and unhealthy habits setting in, she found herself struggling to keep up with the demands of a busy life as a single mom. When her father passed suddenly, things changed. With a better life in mind, she moved with her children from Ottawa back to her hometown of Chalk River, Ontario where she met her now husband, Matt Weiss. After moving in together, blending their two families, and getting married, they have worked together to combine their love of food and health. They started a new endeavour in 2016 making the tasty, probiotic beverage, kombucha for their business, Laurentian Brew Kombucha. Natalie also pursued her passion-turned-business as a photographer in the area with Natalie Surette Photography.
With a vast knowledge and understanding of food restrictions, intolerances, fitness goals, and having battled both ends of the eating disorder spectrum, Natalie is confident in her ability to help people achieve optimal health by working together to create a custom plan for each individual. She recognizes the factors of mind, body, and spirit and how they play a role in the overall achievement of a strong and healthy being.
These days, Natalie is once again pursuing her passion as a Holistic Nutritionist and Personal Trainer. She began Foods with Benefits first as a display of healthy meal options through photos on Instagram, and then moving to a health and wellness business in the Deep River area. Offering convenience for her clients with a “your place or mine” option, she will come to your house, meet at the gym, plan an workout in the great outdoors, or have you in her personal training studio. She hosts a variety of health-related services including nutritional consulting, meal planning, personal training, personal shopping, meal prep tutorials, and body composition tracking. Knowing how vital it is to keep our bodies healthy, Natalie wants to share her knowledge with you to help you be the best you can be.
